Re-Ignite Your Passion ~ Find Meaning In Your Work Now!

Lost in the Realm of Employment ~ Something is Missing …

What is wrong with me?

I have a good job, steady income, and my bills are getting paid. Savings are still a bit depleted, but building. As I contemplate this feeling, I realize my job has become routine. It is no longer challenging. My progress has plateaued. There aren’t many new things on the horizon to learn or conquer.

Do you know what I mean? My schedule grants me the flexibility to work remotely during the week. This is a huge plus. I am not micro-managed. I am in charge of my schedule. My work ethic is at the top of the scale. Once I learn what I need to do, I need no direction. I direct myself.

My current job is like this. My boss has an open-door policy. The longer I am in my job, the less I have to ask him for help.

But something is lacking. I am lost in the realm of employment. I am a person who needs a purpose. That purpose has flown the coop ~ the longer I stay employed, the more I allow work to come to the forefront. Meaning, many times, it is #1 over other areas in my life that I need to attend to.

Life Between Choices

The Difference . . .

I worked for myself for several years, which allowed me to create a work environment that I was in control of. As an employee, I wasn’t in control of my time. Office politics, different personalities to contend with, a lack of working in a team environment, no option to grow, or get involved with different projects to keep my mind and spirit uplifted, all these things I did not deal with as an entrepreneur.

Yes, there are times you need to bite the bullet, hunker down, put your goals, your passions, your freedom on hold. I am not unhappy with my position. I honor the times I have figured out something pretty darn complicated, patting myself on my back with a “well done Judy” attitude.

“Accounting, My #1 Strength:”

For me, accounting becomes boring. Accounting encompasses all types of businesses, large and small. It doesn’t matter the business type; once I learn the processes needed, it becomes redundant. With 35+ years of experience and training, it is a very strong skill set that is needed.

I thrive on challenge. As an entrepreneur, I use different unique skill sets that keep me engaged for long periods. As an employee, once I learn what I need to do, I hit that wall. I become disengaged. This doesn’t affect my work, but it affects me.

What can I do to find the meaning in my workflow?

  • Write ~ nothing fancy, just start writing
  • When a thought comes into my head ~ write it down
  • Meet with an expert in the area you want to get help in ~ which I did today.
  • Come up with a schedule ~ I use Google Calendar ~ schedule time out for writing (the something I want to do more of)
  • Set an appointment with a business coach ~ I will write about this when I have that business coach under my belt.

As the above suggestions become routine, I will add new items to my list. I don’t want to overwhelm myself with too many items to work on. Too many will discourage me, but adding new items to my list will be imperative to keep me engaged. Just enough to be that challenge.

Keeping things in perspective prevents getting overwhelmed, but I need my goals to align with “Igniting My Passion!”

I now go to work with a little skip in my step. I am earning a steady income, and at the same time, pursuing my creative side. Helping entrepreneurs tell their stories, one story at a time.
