Visualization ~ Do You Use It?

Posted: Business Notes, Ready to be a business owner, This is your year, Visualization, Women Entrepreneur

I have to say, that this is one powerful way to stay on track – Better then a Visualization Boardcreating your own movie, customizing it with your pictures, your sayings, utilizing music and affirmations – that is what visualization is all about.

I have a picture in my mind of how my life will be in 1 year! I have no clue how that is going to happen, but it will. I sat back and said “Self – What Do YOU Want?” The kids are all grown, and it is my time to do what I want to do. No, I am not being selfish here, any mom will tell you they totally understand.

Kids and family came first – jobs were not necessarily those that I liked! But I was good at the job and I did my very best. It paid the rent, helped to put the food on the table. But did I like my job? Nope! In some cases I didn’t even like the people I worked with!

But once the 50′s hit, a bout with breast cancer and bam – it was like something just smacked me in the face! I have been contemplating what does Judy want to do!

What is the one thing that Judy really wants! And yep, I know what it is! But making my movie, having it run in the background as I work, speaks volumes! I KNOW I will get my beautiful Friesian horse, I know I will pay off my new Ford F150 Raptur, and I know that I will live on at least 2 acre’s with riding trails!

  • First off, I love being in business for myself – yes, it gets a bit hectic – and stressful! But I love helping others with their business success!
  • 2nd – my communication skills are improving! While communication is a strength of mine, that comes from teaching computers to elementary students to being tech support and a software test engineer, there is always room for improvement!
  • 3rd – I have to be more disciplined! And believe you me, that sometimes mean that I am up until midnight working on a website, blog, or brochure for a client – when the eyes become blurry, the brain seems to rewind many times, that is when it is time to hit the hay!
  • 4th – meeting the many different types of small business entrepreneurs keeps my mind totally filled and challenged with new information! That is what I like the best! The learning, the adjusting, the teaching – when it all clicks my goodness the light bulbs don’t light up they “EXPLODE”!
  • 5th – Helping You Tell Your Story To The People Who Need to Hear It is so rewarding! Networking, helping you succeed is what I do best!
  • Having that picture in my head isn’t enough! I need something stronger, something that will help me stay the course.

So, now, I am making MY Movie – creating that moving, talking, musical, vision that will sink deeply into the subconscious – and I know that with the universe coming together to help me succeed, the positive energy and vibes, manifesting my future into reality – that yes, I will be riding that beautiful spirit, one that connects with my inner self.

How Do You Handle Change?

Posted: Business Notes, Change, Keys To Entreprenurial Success

This is the very best question that you can ask yourself. There are two types of people – (in my opinion) those that embrace change and those that don’t. To be a successful entrepreneur you need to be able to embrace change. No, that doesn’t mean that you are comfortable with change, but that does mean that you are open to it.

My work with the small business entrepreneur is very enlightening indeed. However, I have learned to ask better questions (for a new potential client) and to realize when I have misjudged to walk away from the relationship.

It doesn’t mean that anyone is wrong here, it simply means that we don’t make a good team.

What do you look for in your business relationships? Are you looking for that team player? Are you looking at being open to constructive critique, to new idea’s, to brain storming? Who do you work with the best? Are you more interested in building the relationship or are you interested in making a sale?

These are all good questions and you need to answer them honestly. Only “You” know what you are all about. I wrote these down and wanted to share with you as Oprah is conducting her “Master Class” series:

  • Wake Up Curious
  • Be a Blessing to Somebody
  • The Upside of hard Times
  • Reinvent Yourself
  • Stay True To Yourself No Matter What
  • Find Your Passion
  • Open To The Unexpected
  • The Connections That Sustain Us
  • Go For Excellence
  • Trust Your Instincts

Doing things from the heart, upholding your belief system, creating change, paying it forward, these are all things that I work towards.  I am “NOT” a chess player!  Sitting and figuring out everyone’s next or potential moves drives me literally insane!

I am a doer.  Yes, that has gotten me in trouble many many times, but over all, it has been what keeps me going.  If something isn’t turning out the way that I think it should, I quickly change course.

That doesn’t mean that I won’t take a step back and reflect and think things out.  But once I commit to a decision, I don’t second guess – I just jump in with both feet.

Surrounding yourself with like minded people, with positive people, with people that want to embrace change is what I look for.  Finding my path and moving forward is what I do every single day.  Looking at the positive side of things, accepting the responsibility for an error made – that is what I do.

I read books, articles, build up a network of referrals and have no issue with referring someone on to another business or individual that can help them better.  Knowing your own limits, your area of expertise is key in your business success.

So, I ask you once more – “How Do You Handle Change?”

Boomers Are Driving A New Entrepreneurship Boom!

Some people are calling entrepreneurship the ‘new mid-life crisis’ for the 76 million-strong demographic once thought to be over the hill. Partially due to the economy, but also due to longer, healthier lives and changes in job tenure, 62% of working Boomers are now expected to stay in the labor force, with real power and influence, for at least nine more years, to 2020.

Here is a summary of indicative facts from the earlier study referenced, an update published last year, and others. These indicate that the correct icon for an entrepreneur may now have gray hair, rather than the warm glow of youth:

* In every single year from 1996 to 2010, Boomers between the ages of 55 and 64 had a higher rate of entrepreneurial activity than Gen-Y, aged 20-34. The highest growth rate last year actually was the next echelon, Gen-X, 35 to 44-year-old’s.

* These trends seem likely to persist. In the Kauffman Foundation Survey of nearly 5,000 companies that began in 2004, nearly two-thirds of the founders are now between the ages of 35 and 54.

* Additionally, Kauffman research has revealed that the average age of the founders of technology companies in the United States is a surprisingly high 39 — with twice as many over age 50 as under age 25.

* While people under 30 have historically jumped from job to job, another striking development has been a deep drop in the incidence of ‘lifetime’ jobs among men over age 50.

* With longer life expectancies and greater health in later life, older generations are moving to start new firms — and mentor young entrepreneurs. One new incentive is the falling transaction costs and barriers to entry for entrepreneurs of every age.

* Half of the Internet users age 50-64 use social media now, an 88 percent growth from the previous year. The number of Facebook users in the US age 55 and older grew from around 1 million in early 2009 to 10 million in early 2010.

* The immigrant rate of entrepreneurial activity declined slightly in 2009, but remained substantially higher than the native-born rate. Business start-up rates in America increased the most in the Midwest and South.

In addition, the Boomer demographic is also creating a slew of new market opportunities, including improved healthcare facilities, construction of senior-friendly facilities, and technical support for seniors, by seniors. What all of this means is that boomers will have more impact and power in the marketplace for a lot longer than most people expected.

Since entrepreneurship is a key driver of economic growth, this should bode well for America, and for world economic growth as well. In terms of job creation, innovation, and productivity, entrepreneurs drive growth. Many Boomers have the purchasing power and become enthusiastic early adopters who help lead the way. They are becoming the new early adopters.

Of course no one has any idea what the next big thing will be, but more often than not innovation comes from entrepreneurs. If you are one of the Baby Boomers who wants to redefine retirement, now is your chance for real impact. Find an opportunity you understand, follow your passion, and join the entrepreneurial majority.

Creating a Successful Plan!

No matter what type of plan we are talking about ~ here is some great advice by Chris Gardner, AARP’s Pursuit & Happiness Ambassador – A Plan Must be:

  • Clear
  • Concise
  • Compelling
  • Consistent
  • Committed To

So many times, we do not successfully plan out our plan of action, marketing campaign, or our daily activities, then we sit back and wonder why the plan isn’t working!  Having the plan in your head isn’t enough!  You must commit to placing it on paper – it is more like reinforcing your idea’s, your plan of action, the steps you are going to take to accomplish your ultimate goal.

One of the key things that entrepreneurs need to do is plan!  Many times, we entrepreneurs shoot straight from the hip!  We know what we want to do, so we just move forward and do it!  Unfortunately, we are really setting ourselves up for failure.  I am not implying that all quick decisions and actions will result in failure of the objective, but when you are taking on a major project and want to change a few things, planning it all out just ups the % of success two-fold.
